The beauty of film is the beauty of the ordinary; of people and quiet places. Perhaps I discovered this in my own quiet and ordinary life. Beauty in small and humble places.
I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and I am a proud “Utahan”. My family has lived here for generations, since the first Mormon Pioneers entered the valley in 1847. I love my family and my heritage; the hard work and sweat of hundreds of hands that have put me where I am today. That earthy and very human spirit (humble and diligent) I value immensely. In my life and young adulthood, I learned to love the outdoors, reading, and that certain intangible quality that is hard work and sincere expression. When you see and participate in stories at a young age, I think most everyone finds themselves wanting to make their own, and so from an early age I knew I wanted to create.
On a creative whim in high school, me and several friends started a film club in high school. I was hooked, and I haven’t looked back. Engaging in the craft of filmmaking and specifically directing is my ultimate creative pursuit in life. The more I study and consume all kinds of art, the more committed I become to this beautiful form of expression.
On top of directing, cinematography, and writing, I have been teaching professionally for almost 6 years now and find it extremely invigorating and fulfilling. Creating things, teaching about the masters who have created beauty before me, and continually steeping myself in the art and craft of storytelling is my life’s passion.
